Miracle Marathon.

Camp Sunshine is pleased to announce the completion of its first ever run from Florida to Maine. The 1600+ mile Miracle Marathon kicked off the grand opening of Camp Sunshine's new campus and the celebration of bringing miles of smiles to critically ill children and their families for 16 years.

On June 5, 2001, eleven runners began the trek to Camp Sunshine in West Palm Beach, Florida, at St. Mary's Hospital. From there, the "Miracle Runners" averaged approximately 150 miles per day for 13 days. The runners traversed through Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and ended with a 30 mile relay into Camp Sunshine on June 17, 2001 - the first day of its Opening Ceremony. The relay began at Hadlock Field, home of the Portland Sea Dogs, in Portland, Maine.

.Televised and published news coverage, radio updates, and magazine articles helped promote the run and allowed the nation to keep pace with the runners' progress throughout their journey. Supporters from around the nation and beyond also visited this site to view event highlights, which were updated daily. A documentary of the event, from its planning stages to its end in Maine, is also planned, and will be available for release after the run's completion.

The Miracle Marathon was an opportunity for Camp Sunshine to show the world that when it comes to a child's happiness no distance is too far, and no challenge is too great. The goal for the Miracle Marathon was to raise $150,000. Although the run is over, we are still accepting donations. All proceeds will be used to provide a week-long respite at Camp Sunshine for 100 critically ill children and their families during the 2001 sessions.

DONATIONS STILL BEING ACCEPTED
